Tour Edge Exotics – EXS 220 Fairway Metals (Woods)

Recently, I shared an article about the new Exotics EXS 220 driver from David Glod and Tour Edge Golf. In today’s article, I shed a little bit of light on the fairway metals. Highly underrated, the EXS metalwoods from 2019 were top performers. The beautiful part about that range was that you received a premium product, made with premium components with a ton of technology for a very reasonable MSRP.

With the EXS 220 fairway metals, you get more of the same with a couple of new “wrinkles”. Lighter materials, a Diamond Cup Face (see more on that technology below), and an improved SlipStream Sole headline the features of the EXS 220 metalwoods.

For more, please see the excerpt from the full press release as shared by Jon Claffey. Mr. Claffey is the Vice President of Marketing for Tour Edge Golf.

EXS 220 Fairway

The new EXS 220 Fairway Metals are made with a new Hyper-Steel that is 14% lighter than the previous EXS fairway metal, allowing for more weight to be positioned in the center of the sole and the rear of the clubhead to create dual-concentric weighting that produces a unique combination of ease of launch and low spin.

tour-edge-exotics-exs-220-fairway-woods-face

The combination of the back weight, the Diamond Cup Face and Dual Carbon Sole produced impressive distance gains, while also providing extreme forgiveness off the face by greatly increasing the M.O.I. of the clubhead. Dual Carbon Fiber placements featured in the heel and toe and a new larger 6-gram weight placed in the rear of the clubhead helped create extreme weight savings that could be then repositioned to help create the extreme jump in MOI properties and to create the ideal C.G. position for a fairway metal. Additional weights will be available in 3 grams, 9 grams, 11 grams and 14 grams to help dial in the preferred swing weight and trajectory.

While typical variable face thickness would feature only three layers of thick and thin areas behind the face, Diamond Face technology features 44 different thick and thin  diamond shapes behind the face of the fairway metal, producing a sweet spot that is extended higher on the toe, heel and center of the face.

The SlipStream Sole features improved wider speed channels that create a faster
clubhead speed due to smoother turf interaction. The EXS 220 fairway metal also features the S.D. Bar used to improve the acoustic engineering by enhancing the richness of sound upon impact.

Three 3-Woods will be offered in the EXS 220 fairway metal line-up, 13.5, 15 and
16.5 degree models. The 15-degree will be available in left-handed. There will also
an 18-degree 5-Wood and 21-degree 7-Wood available.

To see the chosen stock shafts for the EXS 220 Fairway, see the SpeedTested Shafts section below that will explain how the optimal shaft for every flex and swing speed has been selected for the EXS 220 line through extensive robotic testing. Also of note below, the Exotics 220 line-up will now be included in Tour Edge’s unprecedented 48-hour custom delivery program for custom orders anywhere in the continental United States.

The suggested retail price for the EXS 220 Fairway is $249.99.

New Exotics EXS 220 Driver – All That You Need to Know

Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing information on the new Exotics EXS 220 metalwoods family. I predicted that the 2019 EXS range was going to be good, really good and highly underrated based on my reviews of the Exotics EXS hybrid. That hybrid ended up being the best that I’ve gamed to this point and is an “automatic” club. If you never made swings with the EXS irons or the driver then you really missed out.

touredge2020

Fun Fact. The 2019 Exotics EXS driver finished on the podium for Teezy Award honors in the “Top Driver” category. As new products have emerged and information released, it was Tour Edge Golf who had me the most curious. How would they follow-up the very successful Exotics EXS range? The answer.  The Exotics EXS 220.

Today, we have a look at the driver.

In the release below we learn about everything that is the Exotics 220 range. I liken them to a proverbial love-child of the EXS and CBX 119 range (the latter I never made swings with).

New inclusions for the EXS 220 driver include…

  • Diamond-Face Technology
  • Exceptional forgiveness through very high MOI numbers
  • S.D Bar to enhance and improve the acoustics and more

Please see the press release below for all of the details. More to come.

Tour Edge officially introduces the Exotics EXS 220 driver, fairway metal and
hybrid, featuring state-of-the-art game-enhancing innovations that vastly improves
upon the wildly successful and award-winning Exotics EXS line.

Exotics EXS 220 metalwoods feature Diamond Face technology, a major breakthrough in face technology that features different thick and thin diamond shapes or “mini-trampolines” behind the face, producing a hotter face with faster ball speeds and better performance on off-center hits, as well as reduced spin.

The all-new shapes and weight repositioning of the EXS 220 metalwoods have made
for the most forgiving and stable metals ever produced by Tour Edge.

“We have taken a substantial leap forward in design innovation with the entire EXS
220 line,” said Tour Edge President and Master Club Designer David Glod. “We set
an all-time record for Exotics metalwoods sold with the original EXS line and based
on the initial reaction to the performance from our partners and tour professionals,
we feel we will shatter that sales record with the EXS 220.”

tour-edge-exs-220-driver-exploded

“Our goal is to make anyone who hits these side by side to clubs that cost twice as
much to question why they would ever think about spending the extra money,” said
Glod. “These clubs are that good. We will have a large amount of EXS 220 in play
on the professional tours and we will penetrate bags of the better players across
the globe due to the extreme performance benefits of these clubs. Truly, pound for
pound, nothing comes close to the EXS 220 metalwoods.”

The new ultra-premium, high-performance Exotics EXS 220 driver, fairway metal
and hybrid will be featured at the 2020 PGA Merchandise Show and will be available
for purchase worldwide on February 1, 2020.

EXS 220 Driver

The EXS 220 Driver produces extreme Moment of Inertia (M.O.I.) numbers with its
all new elongated face-to-back shape and adjustable 9-gram back weight to create
one of the highest M.O.I. ratings ever manufactured in a driver. Additional weights
will be available in 3 grams, 6 grams, 11 grams, and 14 grams to help dial in the
preferred swing weight and trajectory.

The driver features an all-new elongated shape and adjustable 9-gram back weight to create an M.O.I. of 5440 grams per cubic centimeter, a 20% percent increase over the previous EXS Driver. Helping secure such high M.O.I. numbers were also made possible by the employment of Triple Carbon Fiber technology featured on the crown and heel/toe areas of the sole.

This premium and extremely lightweight carbon fiber provide extreme weight savings that could then be repositioned into the back of the clubhead. The high-grade 8-1-1 Titanium face of the EXS 220 Driver is shallower and features a lower density, lighter Titanium to allow for more weight repositioning. Behind the face, the revolutionary Diamond Face technology features 42 different thick and thin diamond shapes, producing a massive sweet spot.

tour-edge-exs-220-driver-face

The Diamond Face produces a hotter face with faster ball speeds, reduction of spin and better performance on off-center hits. Tour Edge engineers have placed a Sound Diffusion Bar (S.D. Bar) inside the clubhead that has been used to improve the acoustic engineering of the entire new EXS metalwood line up.

The S.D. Bar was modeled using the F.E.A software to research and fine-tune the
acoustical properties of the driver. The S.D. Bar is a similar idea employed in music
studios and concert halls with diffusion panels used to enhance the richness of sound.

The EXS 220 offers an unprecedented range of lofts from 7.5 degrees to 14 degrees
with three head options.

An adjustable hosel allows golfers to adjust the loft Plus/Minus 2 degrees up and
down, so with three lofts being offered in 9.5, 10.5, and 12 degrees, the EXS 220
offers an unprecedented range of lofts from 7.5 degrees to 14 degrees between the
three loft options. A left-handed version will be made available in the 10.5 loft option.

“First Impressions” – Tour Edge Exotics EXS Irons

When news started to pour out from Batavia, Illinois based golf equipment manufacturer Tour Edge about their new Exotics EXS range of products I was very excited. Premium products built from premium material. The range includes everything from their driver (which scored very well for a Top Driver Teezy Award) to a set of irons. Between the technology that’s packed into the Exotics EXS line and the attractive price point that accompany them, there is much to be excited about when looking at the EXS range of products.

One of the manufacturers that I was really excited to swing at the 2019 PGA Show Merchandise Demo Day was in fact Tour Edge. Already having had the opportunity to test and review the Tour Edge Exotics EXS 4 hybrid late in 2018 (EXS 4 Hybrid Review here) my appetite was whet in anticipation at the prospect of what the rest of the range was like. Especially, the Exotics EXS irons. The tagline that Tour Edge is using for this range (“Pound for Pound… Nothing Comes Close”) surely resonated with me. Here’s why.

The Pre-Shot Routine

The Exotics EXS irons by Tour Edge are packed with a ton of technology. One of the trends that we’re seeing in the golf industry is that of iron sets consisting of hollow-body construction. The EXS irons are no exception.

Exotics EXS irons feature a forged Cup Face with what Tour Edge refers to as “SpiderWeb VFT Technology”. The result? An expanded sweet spot that allows for more forgiveness which in turn enhances the golfer experience. Especially on strikes that are not… “Optimum”. Also noteworthy is the fact that the face construction is the thinnest that Tour Edge has ever used. The long irons 4-7 are the irons that feature the hollow body construction whilst the short irons 8-PW feature an undercut cavity design. A key point in the short irons is what Tour Edge calls “LaunchPad Technology”. LaunchPad Technology is a polymer that Tour Edge used to absorb vibration, enhance the feel and create more “trampoline effect”. This effect aids in providing a higher ball exit velocity which theoretically equates to more distance.

techlayer

What good is a game-improvement iron if it doesn’t feature perimeter weighting? Perimeter weighting has become an integral part of the golf manufacturing industry when it comes to the design of irons. Once thought to be used predominantly in game-improvement irons we’ve seen the use of Tungsten perimeter weighting in what many would now describe as player’s irons. The EXS irons are no exception as Tour Edge R&D placed a 19-gram toe weight to further address forgiveness and playability. Higher M.O.I equals more resistance to twisting and “elongates the sweet spot”.

Technology points don’t simply “end” in the design of the head. Stock shafts offered in both graphite and steel. The options are none other than the Tensei CK Blue 2G Series by Mitsubishi Chemical (MCA). This shaft (also featured in the EXS Hybrid) combines the best of Kevlar, Carbon Fiber and other lightweight materials. Shaft weights vary depending on the flex of the shaft (60-80 grams). Or in the case of the steel option, the KBS Max 80 is available in either a Regular or Stiff flex and Tour Edge opted to choose the venerable Lamkin Grips UTx grip.

The Transition

(Demo Day Conditions – Sunny, Windy (left to right) and Warm. Tested with the MCA Tensei CK Blue 2G Series in Stiff flex)

Aesthetics – First things first. I just wanted to point out that in a way these irons reminded me a little bit of their EXi irons introduced a couple of product cycles ago.

That said, these irons look mean and remind me of a “Muscle Car” from the 50s-60s. Maybe like a 1957 Chevrolet Belair? When looking at them from the perspective of the golf bag view (cavity view) they look fast and they look powerful. Raw horsepower! I love the colorway of these irons with the silver and black badge on the back but the “pop” of blue just further adds to the aesthetic value of these irons (see picture below).

top cast

Tour Edge Exotics EXS irons

The looks are very attractive in the address position. The blade length is neither too long nor is it too short. At the risk of sounding like “Golfilocks” the blade length was just right. The blade length inspires confidence at address and the ball sets up great behind the head. What I really like from the address position is the top line. It is quite thin for game-improvement irons and I found the EXS irons to be very attractive overall. Personally speaking, I feel that the EXS irons may very well be the best-looking iron set in its category.

Performance– Make no bones about it. The EXS irons are premier performers. Quite honestly, it all boils down to the initial thoughts I had regarding their looks (in the address position). Looking down at them, I felt so confident that I was going to see good results that the confidence went straight to my hands and arms. Quite honestly, at that point, I hadn’t really made a ton of swings with any clubs. I was still finding my way (and my swing) post-Stroke and I really had no clue what swing was going to show up at Demo Day. My first swing resulted in a well-struck 8-iron that seemed to penetrate the left to right wind. The feel on that first strike was so crisp and more importantly, the ball flight didn’t “balloon”. The wind did not affect the ball flight. It just held up and on its intended line.

Divots were crisp and that could be contributed to the design of the sole which is called a “Ramped Sole”. The sole is designed to provide better turf interaction and heel relief. More relief means less likelihood of the club getting entangled with the turf.

Distance. Without having any sort of launch monitor data I cannot give specific numbers. That’s why I tout being the “Home of Organic Golf Reviews”. Using my senses (sight, sound, touch) has allowed me to differentiate differences from club to club. These irons are “hot” and “long”. The thin cup face sounds “mean” and you know that you’ve struck the golf ball based on the crisp “thwack” at impact. The sound and feel are very “solid” and it’s very noticeable in the hollow-bodied longer irons. The Tungsten weighting in the toe as far as I’m concerned served its purpose very well and not only did it help to prevent twisting but it seemed like squaring the face was achieved very easily. These irons are long… I need to point out that I turned myself around to hit into the wind as best as I could. I need to point out one important fact about the EXS irons.

*** The iron lofts are strong!! For comparison sake the PW is an astounding 42*. If you trap the ball as you should you’ll de-loft the club more.

While I will not go as far as suggesting that the EXS irons have a blade-like profile I will say that the minimal offset and thinner top-line nearly suggests that it is. The result is a golf club that you can control and shot-shape with ease. Cut, draw, high, and low all shots are easily achieved. Flighting the ball is a “breeze”. My typical shot shape is straight to a baby draw and it was no exception with the EXS irons. The MCA Tensei CK Blue 2G shafts were smooth and quite honestly as expected based on my previous experience using this shaft. it is Tour-proven.

What a fantastic set of irons!

The Finish

There are iron sets that have given me a great first impression. The Exotics EXS irons were consummate. A total blend of looks, power, feel, and performance. This is an iron set that will benefit golfers of all skill levels. I’m talking Scratch all the way to a 25-handicap. The Exotics EXS irons scored and impressive. Iron sets start from $499.99 USD and come in a variety of set compositions 5-PW to 7-PW/AW/GW/SW.

Tour Edge has packed a ton of technology into these irons and I have no doubt in my mind that they might be the irons that are in fact “Pound for Pound” the best. There’s a reason why these irons won their category for the Teezy Awards. The Exotics EXS irons scored 38.5 out of 40 points. I really think that these irons would warrant further testing on-course! Range time is one thing… On-course is another. If you’re in the market for new irons in 2019 these would be worth a look. For more information on these Exotics EXS irons please visit Tour Edge.

Petrovic is also wearing a Tour Edge Exotics hat and shirt this season.

Lehman finished T-15th after shooting a consistent seven-under par 70-70-72 for the three rounds. Lehman is playing a CBX 119 18-degree hybrid with a Project X Even Flow Black shaft and a #2 CBX Iron-Wood. He is wearing a Tour Edge Exotics logo on his chest and carrying a CBX Exotics 119 staff bag this season.

“All four of our Exotics logo staffers played well this week and gave us great television exposure with Scott McCarron leading the way for our 18th win or runner-up finish on the Champions Tour in the last 29 events,” said Tour Edge President David Glod. “In conjunction with the advertising, we are doing within the PGA Tour Champions events, Tour Edge was all over the Golf Channel coverage.”

Lehman currently sits 2nd on the 2019 Charles Schwab Cup Money List, while McCarron climbed seven spots to 7th place on the official money list.

2019 PGA Show Demo Day – Summary

The buzz of the chatter amongst golfers. Golfers that are industry professionals, PGA Professionals and media types. The sound of golf balls meeting club face. The hustle of going from one side of the range to the other. This is Demo Day at the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show.

Today started out early enough. In fact, I was laying awake in bed at 4:30 a.m. with visions of golf balls and new drivers dancing through my head. Part of it was because of all the equipment that I was about to digest and part of it was concern because I had no idea who was coming to swing the clubs. It would be one of Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde or Frankenstein. Hitting into a net in the backyard is one thing… but not seeing real flight is another.

After getting ready, Crystal and I left the motel and made our way to the Orange County Convention Center where we checked-in to the Media Center and picked up our badges. After taking the obligatory shot in front of the large PGA Show sign we made our way to the shuttle bus that would transport us to Demo Day at Orange County National Golf Resort and Lodge. Thru Disney and traffic our driver navigated his way ever the skillful driver.

img_20190122_070703

Upon arrival, it was time to have the first scheduled meeting. Wilson Golf. The 2019 line-up is so much more than the Driver vs Driver 2 winner (Cortex). I had a nice talk with Rich Hulock (Wilson Golf Innovation Manager – Metal Woods) about their range for 2019. The first thing that I need to say in a brief summary is that the Cortex was the rightful winner of the reality t.v. show. It looks fantastic (their nicest to date), the sound/feel was on point and the performance was undeniably terrific. However, as I alluded to Wilson Golf introduced their D7 range recently. When released, I said that the D7 driver and woods “looked right”. They are!! This is a product range that performs and has an appealing price-point. Oh, the D7 irons were just as good as the metal woods. I’ve often said that while their irons have been great for some time now their metal woods have lagged behind. This is simply not the case in 2019.

img_20190122_100114

Tour Edge Exotics released their EXS range in late 2018. I had the opportunity to test and review the hybrid. I’ve been saying for some time that Tour Edge Exotics got it right with EXS. They got it right because they had a ton of technology packed into their clubs with a very attractive price point. The driver was worth the price of admission and the same can be said of the fairway wood and irons. I have no doubt that Tour Edge Exotics (EXS) is the best bargain for the golfer dollar in 2019.

I should really talk about Callaway Golf and the Epic Flash. I had the pleasure of meeting with Dave Neville. Mr. Neville is the Senior Director of Brand Management for Callaway Golf. Admittedly, I had some skepticism about their latest creation. I mean AI (Artificial Intelligence) in a golf club. “Flash Face Technology”? Really?! After the launch and in the days leading up to the show I offered these words. “If they married the Rogue and Epic… they might really have something”. Holy Smokes! They have something! In 2017, I said that Epic looked and performed just like it should. The Epic Flash is that and more. It’s AMAZING! As much as I loved the driver the fairway wood was even better. Oh… the latest iteration of Apex is one great set of irons. The sound and feel is so pleasant. It’s what I dream of at night.

img_20190122_153056

Cobra Golf. The new KING F9 SPEEDBACK driver already has two wins to its credit. Both Lexi and Bryson have won with it in their golf bags. After how good the F8/F8+ were in 2018 I wondered how the encore would be. Tom Olsavsky… I have no idea how your R&D does it but you guys did it again. That product range of metal woods is just a total juggernaut. When it came to the new SPEEDBACK irons (Variable and ONE Length) I knew within two swings how good they were. Either one produced easy launch and a repeatable ball flight. My meeting with Mr. Olsavsky was very educational.

Bridgestone Golf. Not only did I see new clubs of theirs today (Tour B JGR) but I also saw and used their newly introduced E12 golf ball. It’s priced at $29.99 USD and is a 3-piece offering. The wind was brutal out there today and this golf ball stayed on line in the wind, was very controllable and feels great off of all clubs. Speaking of feel. Their tour B JGR driver and metal woods had one of the most responsive faces of the day. I describe the feeling as “lively”. Moreover the new Tour B JGR irons are not only great-looking but are really easy to swing and launch.

img_20190122_143702

Mizuno Golf. I never made any swings with the irons. What I did do however (time constraints) was make swings with the ST-190 driver. There are two models of ST-190. (standard and G). Not only does this club look great and feel even better. It’s face is “jumpy”. Swings were rewarded with flights that just seemed to float and continue down range.

Every year that I come down to the PGA Show I eventually find a “hidden gem”. The discovery of the 2019 PGA Show might have happened at Demo Day. Have you heard of Eagle Rebirth Golf? No? That’s because they’re new. I had an appointment at 3 p.m. with the owner Ernie Reynolds at the ICG booth. He has a very thorough range. Drivers, woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and a couple of putters. I nearly made swings with everything that he had. The irons and wedges are forged from 8620 and they feel soft. The driver and metal woods were easy to launch, went straight and just penetrated. I was picking a tall flag in the middle of the range and I was carrying driver over it. Oh… there was a hurting quartering wind. I wasn’t too sure what to expect after looking at them on their site… let me tell you. It wasn’t what I experienced. Holy Smokes! It takes a while for this Eagle to land. Mr. Reynolds… you have some amazing products.

I could go on and on but I won’t. Here’s what you need to know. The products are so good in 2019 that it’s hard to comprehend. This product cycle is STRONG! Look for first impression reviews of all of these clubs and more in the near future. Time to lick the wounds and get ready as the show moves indoors tomorrow for Day ONE.

Until The Next Tee!!

Tour Edge Golf Releases Exotics EXS Hybrid

I’ve been very fortunate to receive for testing and review the new Tour Edge Exotics EXS Hybrid. Through discussions with their Vice President of Marketing (Jon Claffey) I received this opportunity. Even though I’m in the midst of recovering from a Stroke in September, I’ve been able to put on some swings often and early with hopes of stringing together a nine hole round to wrap things up as the snow has started to fly. If the first impressions are any indication then this hybrid might very well be one of the best I’ve ever had in hand.

The components/materials themselves are premium to say the least. Featuring a Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei Blue CK shaft in 80-grams, a a Japanese HT980 steel cup face which happens to be the thinnest face of any Tour Edge Golf Exotics model previous.  “SlipStream speed channels on the sole that create a faster clubhead speed through smoother turf interaction”.

Launch monitor data suggests that the Tour Edge Golf Exotics is long and the spin is a little bit lower than any other hybrid that I’ve experienced. Likely, it’s a combination of the shaft and weight positioning in the head. My Smash Factor has been a pretty efficient 1.45 which isn’t bad considering my unexpected layoff. From a organic standpoint the face is simple hot and responsive (meaning the ball feels like coming off of the head). Launch is super easy and when in the address position I look down and feel very confident. Thus far, I love the “piercing” acoustics at impact.

Stay tuned for more coverage and the final review of the Exotics EXS Hybrid from Tour Edge Golf.

Tour Edge, Golf’s Most Solid Investment, officially introduces the Exotics EXS hybrid, featuring a myriad of game-enhancing innovations that has led Tour Edge to market the EXS line with the tagline Pound for Pound, Nothing Else Comes Close.

The loaded-with-technology hybrids incorporates a Flight Tuning System (FTS) that features an interchangeable sole weight, Cup Face Technology with Variable Face Thickness (VFT Technology) for an expanded sweet spot and a new and improved SlipStream™ Sole for faster clubhead speed through the turf.

The new ultra-premium, high-performance hybrids will be available worldwide on November 1, 2018.

“We’ve really been able to perfect the hybrid over the past couple of seasons,” said Tour Edge President and Master Club Designer David Glod. “I think one of the main reasons some people went away from replacing their long irons with a traditional hybrid was because they were just experiencing too much spin into the wind. With the EXS hybrid, we have a club that sets up beautifully that is going to be our longest distance hybrid for players below 105 MPH swing speed due to a slightly forward CG that produces less spin and due to this tour-preferred, genuine Tensei CK Blue 2G shaft. This is the ultimate in long iron replacement for the majority of golfers.”

The more compact design of the EXS hybrid head features premium exotic metals; a Japanese HT980 steel cup face. The hyper-strength strength steel is quench-hardened, a special heating technique that takes 750 degrees to provide an extreme amount of strength while allowing for a thinner face. This cup face design allowed for Tour Edge to make the face thinner than in any previous model for a greater energy transfer. The high-performance hexagonal Variable Face Thickness (VFT) offers multiple levels of thickness that maximize forgiveness from more points on the face, especially in the heel and toe areas.

The CG location of the EXS is positioned closer to the face for less spin, creating a trajectory that fights wind and increases roll. The aerodynamics in the EXS hybrid are greatly enhanced by new and improved wider SlipStream speed channels on the sole that create a faster clubhead speed through smoother turf interaction.

The 4-gram sole weight can be adjusted to another weight to increase swing weight in the club and to further reduce spin. Additional weight screws can be purchased as an EXS hybrid weight kit that includes 7-gram and 10-gram weights. Exotics by Tour Edge hybrids became the fastest growing hybrid on the U.S. professional tours in 2018 and were in the bag for four victories on the PGA Tour Champions. Exotics staff players Bart Bryant, Tom Lehman and Scott McCarron all won with an Exotics hybrid in the bag in 2018. Over 250 Exotics clubs were put into play on the PGA Tours in 2018, according to the Darrell Survey.

An ultra-premium Tensei CK Blue 2G shaft series by Mitsubishi Chemical is the chosen stock shaft for the EXS hybrid. Extremely light yet extremely stable throughout, the Tensei Blue CK features advanced materials like Carbon Fiber and Kevlar mixed with other lightweight materials that weigh in the 60-80 gram range depending on flex. A 60-gram weight will be available in Ladies and A-flex, a 70-gram shaft available in Regular flex and an 80-gram shaft available in Stiff and X-flex.

The suggested retail price for the Exotics EXS hybrid is $199.99.

Tour Edge Golf Releasing New Exotics EXS Driver

Yesterday, I shared a press release regarding a new set of innovative irons being released by Tour Edge Golf. The new EXS irons sound like a tantalizing option with a plethora of technology incorporated into it. Today, I’m sharing another press release from Tour Edge Golf.

Introducing the new EXS driver.

Tour Edge Golf has quietly gone about their business developing game-changing metalwoods. Look no further than their Tour Edge Exotics 3 wood that took the golf industry by storm (approximately 2006). Well the Batavia, Illinois based company is at it again with this with this new EXS driver and accompanying metalwoods.

Judging by the following press release there’s a lot going on that would make the EXS driver appealing to golf consumers. Tour Edge golf decided on using the Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei CK Blue 2G shaft as it’s stock offering. This shaft is available in everything from a Ladies Flex up to a X-Stiff (shaft weights vary). Multiple adjustable weights to tweak your launch and spin characteristics. RollFace Technology to allow for straighter shots by modifying bulge and roll. Increased swing speeds by improved aerodynamics and last but not least. A very intriguing and fair price point. This driver is going to retail with a MSRP of $299.99 USD ($390 CAD based on the exchange rate at time of writing).

For more information please see the press release below.

Tour Edge, Golf’s Most Solid Investment, officially introduces the Exotics EXS driver, featuring a myriad of game-enhancing innovations that has led Tour Edge to market the EXS line with the tagline Pound for Pound, Nothing Else Comes Close.

The loaded-with-technology driver features a Flight Tuning System (FTS) that includes 9-gram and 3-gram interchangeable weights, an adjustable hosel that allows for plus two or minus two degrees in loft, RollFace Technology for an expanded sweet spot, Dual Carbon Fiber placement for ideal weight distribution and a new and improved SlipStream™ Sole for faster clubhead speed.

The new ultra-premium, high-performance drivers will be available worldwide on November 1, 2018.

“The EXS driver is absolutely loaded with technology,” said Tour Edge President and Master Club Designer David Glod. “This is the most technology we’ve ever been able to fit into a design and each one works in concert with one another to provide the best performing driver possible. The shapes are beautiful and we utilized only the finest in materials and components. I believe that at the aggressive price point that we are offering, the EXS driver will have its highest impact on the driver market over any other previous Exotics release.”

The EXS 460cc head features premium Japanese exotic metals; TSP 910 Beta Titanium face plate featuring Variable Face Thickness Technology and a 8-1-1 Titanium chassis. The TSP 910 Beta Titanium face has been made even thinner and lighter in the EXS over previous Exotics driver models to produce a greater spring-like effect.

Tour Edge R&D paired the superior TSP 910 Beta Titanium face plate with the exceptionally light Carbon Fiber Crown and with additional Carbon Fiber located on the toe of clubhead, allowing weight to be strategically repositioned lower and deeper in the head for optimal spin and creating an extremely high MOI. The Dual Carbon Fiber Technology also helped Tour Edge engineers to significantly improve the acoustics of the driver and enabled them to account for the gram weight of the FTS weights and the adjustable hosel.

The Flight Tuning System allows adjustable sole weights to be moved to two alternate settings; a 9- gram weight in the heel, 3-gram weight in the rear for lower spin, slice-reducing shape and a medium launch and then the 3-gram weight in the heel and 9-gram weight in the rear for medium spin, neutral shape and a higher launch. Additional weight screws can be purchased as a kit that includes 6-gram, 11-gram and 14-gram weights.

The adjustable hosel allows the 9.5 degree EXS driver to go from 7.5 degrees to 11.5 degrees, while the 10.5 degree EXS driver will adjust from 8.5 degrees to 12.5 degrees, making the EXS Driver one of the most versatile drivers on the market. The adjustable hosel also features three upright lie angle settings, giving the EXS driver 16 different settings between the two FTS weights and the eight different loft and lie settings. An Exotics tuning wrench will come no charge with each driver at the point of purchase.

A new RollFace Technology incorporates modified bulge and roll on the toe to create straighter shots for shots hit off the toe, which is where the majority of miss-hits with a driver are made. In conjunction with the sweet-spot enhancing Variable Face Thickness technology, the RollFace makes this the most forgiving driver face ever produced by Tour Edge. The aerodynamics in the EXS driver are greatly enhanced by a more sloping crown and wider speed channels on the sole. The new, more tapered head profile also reduces aerodynamic drag. New wider speed channels on the SlipStream sole create an even faster clubhead speed and enhance the aerodynamics of the clubhead.
